Open water swimming at Druridge

Thursday night sees the start of the Open Water Swim sessions. We’re back to the water ┬ásports jetty, which has been nicely cleaned up.

Get there at 6:45, to be ready to get in the water at 7pm. It will be cold, so bring appropriate gear for during (extra swim hat / booties / gloves) and after (flask / food).

The session will be short, with coaches on hand to help guide newbies through the acclimatisation.

Option for a short blast on the bike beforehand – Druridge – Widdrington – Amble – Druridge time-trial route. 6pm start for this.

I am a 53 year old very slow breast stroker that has entered, with my wife, the 1/2 mile Great North Swim at Loch Lomond in August. I’ve just found your website and whilst I both run & cycle, I’d hardly call myself a triathlete!
If I got a wet suit sorted, can I join you at Druridge one night? Is any swimming ‘tuition’ available? My wife would swim too.
Can you advise where the best place to get a wet suit is?
