Congratulations to Alnwick Tri Club member Giles Sharp. News has come through today that he has qualified for the World sprint distance triathlon world championships in New Zealand in October.
Not the best swimmer in the club, Giles has had to work extra hard at the bike and run to make up for lost time and successfully went to Bristol tri qualifying race where he maintained the time gap from the winner of his age group as he got out the water (meaning he biked and ran the same time) and this was enought to earn him qualification. Giles is a testament to determination and persistence as he set his goal last year when he could barely swim alength and then entered all 3 qualification races and eventually on the 3rd attempt, he did enough to get a roll down spot.
Giles is away on holiday at the moment so you will have to wait until next week to congratulate him but I think the GB trisuit has already been ordered and the bike stickers with his name and GB flag are on their way to him courtesy of www.stickybike.co.uk
My sincere thanks to John Lester, Tracey Sample, Ian Simon and Jock Bolam for their help and support over the last year. To all Alnwick Tri members – if I can do it, so can you! Giles
