Am aiming for mainly hilly events, with views and off road runs, but not many mountain bike events this year - fun, but I haven't got a mtn bike and hiring was getting a bit expensive - and want to concentrate more on road biking after enjoying the Helvellyn bike route so much.
Will, however, probably do at least the 'long' and possibly also the 'short' Glentress duathlons. (28th Feb lng, 24th Jan short)
Probably Galashiels pool-based sprint tri - good kick-start to tri season, in mid - April (no dates yet) - did last 2 years, lovely bike route....and can go on to Glentress to play mountain bikes in the afternoon with my son..(and eat lots of big breakfast and cake in their cafe!)
Keswick Mountain Festival triathlon, May 23rd - 750 lake swim, 25ish miles road bike, 10 k ish run
Did this last year - highly recommend! If you like good views, you can distract yourself from the very cold lake by looking at the surrounding hills; the bike is a good mixture of hilly - out of Keswick, and on the far side of Derwent water (amazing views of lake) - and fast along the A66, the run is along the lake, then steeply up onto fells - worth it at top though for views again, just magical! There's also alot else going on all week if you've got the family with you..
Wensleydale Cheese triathlon - early August probably, but no date yet - this is my big new challenge for 2010, inspired by Bridget last year...also, I love the area...(fantastic cream scones in Muker!) ...I think it's 1800m swim in a reservoir, 42miles (or 48?) of very difficult road biking, including 4 x 25% gradient hills - one of them out of T1! Then 12miles fell run.
Helvellyn tri - Sept 5th - umm, might end up doing this again (despite telling Bec as I crossed the finish in 09 that once was definitely enough!)..as several people have said they might also do it, and also because I now realise that the way to train for the run is in a multi storey car park! And also, I'm determined to not get lost or freaked out on the rocky bit up to the top of Helvellyn - which'll shave a good 20mins off my time in one fell swoop! |
