Welcome
Alnwick Tri was formed following the success of the first triathlon in September 2004 at the Willowburn Sports Centre. It has quickly become the largest triathlon club in Northumberland.

Alnwick Tri caters for novice triathletes or those wanting to try the sport for the first time, as well as more experienced triathletes. If you're interested in trying out the sport or joining the club, you're welcome to come along to any of our training sessions.

BikeOnly a small number of actual racers last week but a great turnout of newcomers were taken around the Alnwick Tri route by Tracey and Ian. If anyone would like to come along to a Tuesday Time Trial and be coached around the course, please contact Tracey or Ian.

The times for those who raced the course were as follows:

Name Time Position

Jack Ferguson 33:14 2
Kevin Marshallsay 33:38 3
Dom Plumley 35:38 4

Tuesday Cycling Time Trials
BikeThe cycling time trials run on Tuesday evenings starting at 7pm from the bridge near to the Oaks Hotel.

In order for these time trial to run we need volunteers to time the riders and I deperately need volunteers from next week onwards.

If you have never done a time trial before and want to know how it works, this is an ideal opportunity to find out. It's a very easy job and you will be partnered with another volunteer so you will never be on your own.

So far the only volunteers have been committee members so we really need volunteers from the club/family/friends to make sure that everyone gets a chance to ride.

The time trials won't run without volunteers to time so please support this important training session and your club and come along to help.

I can be contacted by mobile: 07747735990 or by email/personal message.

Thanks, Hazel

National Champs
Druridge Bay hosted the standard distance national champs on Sunday. The race consisted of one lap of the lake (1500m), 7 laps of a closed-road course round the beach road towards Amble and back along the A1068 to the country park (25 miles), followed by 3 laps of the lake with an extra loop round transition for the run (a slightly short 10k).

Another cycle study at Northumbria uni
BikeNorthumbria are after cyclists for another study, this time investigating the effect of competition on performance.

Normally they specify fit, male cyclists aged 18-40. Doubt there'll be any cash payments, but you get your VO2 max tested and some other useful info.

OneLife tri at Druridge Bay
Just a reminder that its the National Champs at Druridge Bay this weekend. There's plenty from the club racing (entry list at TriHard), so please come along and cheer your club-mates along.

We're very fortunate to have such a prestigous event on our door-step - an ideal opportunity to watch the quick guys fly through transition, etc.

If anyone would like to volunteer to assist race organiser Paul Jones, either let him now by email (paul.jones@activeberwick.co.uk) or let me know (info@alnwicktriathlon.co.uk)

Weekend round-up
Lots going on this weekend - Cyclone, Castles & Islands, Peebles & Cleveland short course.

Coniston-Grizedale mountain bike triathlon - 12th July
Come on people - where's your spirit of adventure?!

I just had a couple of nights over there, with a day of reckying the bike and run routes - it's a fantastic place - handy camping space provided (very useful on a w/end in the Lakes) - Grizedale Forest Park is great for families - bike hire, adventure playground, high ropes course etc - and there are not yet many people entered. You won't come last, as I will! (..and only one more women needed and there'll be enough for possible team points for Alnwick tri. There's not many women entered at all.)
