Volunteers required - Tuesday & Thursday nights
We've been successfully running the Tuesday night cycling time-trial in Alnwick and Thursday night open-water swim sessions at Druridge Bay for a few weeks now, and have a list of volunteers to cover some of these sessions.

There are still some gaps in the scheduled, and I would expect every member of the club to cover at least one of these sessions through the season.

11 May time trial
BikeSlightly quieter night, as we clashed with the Les Alcorn race at Hulne Park. Although a bit chilly, it was dry & still, pretty much perfect conditions.

Paul Mace was quickest on the night, followed by Ian Simon & Kev Marshallsay who both got caught by traffic lights at the roadworks by the Castle Gardens.

Lake swim - wetsuits available
SwimNeil Bowers from MV Sport (http://mvsport.co.uk) will be at Druridge this Thursday as part of the ongoing open water training.

He's going to bring some wetsuits along (think he deals with Aquasphere & Blue seventy) so if you're interested in getting a new suit, come along a bit early to have a look. Neil should be at the lake from about 6pm.

Alnwick Tri Marshals
Marshal information for Alnwick Tri has now been emailed out to all volunteers. Please check this and let Jo Gascoigne-Owens know if you have any queries.

Tuesday TT - 4 May
BikeA bit of extra bike bling on show as we reach race season, and both Jock and Ian proved that you can buy success - each PB'ed on shiny new wheels.

Another fine ride for Henrietta. Her weekly improvements continued, and this week she set the fastest woman's time on the course.

GB Qualifiers
The Club sent a team down to Northamptonshire to Grendon Sprint Triathlon on Sunday 9th May which was a qualifying event for the Age Group World Championships to be held in Budapest, Hungary in September 2010.

Attracting a very competitive field of more than 600 people, the race was a 750m lake swim, 23km bike and a 5k run and because it was a qualifier, it was split into 5yr age categories. Ian Simon and Jock Bolam competed in the male 40-44 yrs category, Tracey Sample in the female 40-44 category and Emma Pearson in the 25-29 category.

As the qualifier was very early in the season, Alnwick Tri Club have swum in the cold water of Ladyburn Lake at Druridge Bay six weeks earlier than normal. The water there has only just reached 11deg C which has been good training as the water temperature for the race itself was just 12 deg C and this is the minimum allowed temperature for a race to take place.

  • Ian exited the water in 6th place out of a field of 78 and moved up to 2nd place by the end of the bike leg and then ran past the final competitor to finish in 1hr 9 min 22 sec, 20 sec ahead of his nearest rival to finish fastest vet, 13th overall.
  • Jock finished in 1hr 22min 45sec, 50th in category having swam and biked well, an excellent result in his second season of triathlon and his first attempt at a national event.
  • Emma came out of the water in 4th out of 22 competitors. She quickly moved into the lead on the bike, which has been improving over last few months and consolidated the lead finishing in 1hr 17min 47 sec, 90 sec clear of her nearest rival to win the Female 20-24 category.
  • Tracey finished in 7th place in category out of 25 in 1hr 23min 45sec.
Ian, Emma and Tracey all qualified to represent Great Britain in Hungary, congratulation to them all.

Alnwick Tri 2010 Race info
Alnwick Tri race info has now been sent to everyone.

If you do not have it, let me know on:-

It is also available in the downloads section of this web site.

There is still time to change your swim times but I need to make the places final by mid week and there will now be no more new entries into the race even if people drop out.

Saturday Bike ride - change of time
BikeFor anyone who normally comes on the Saturday afternoon bike ride the time from Saturday will be back to 1:30pm from the Granary in Amble. Hope to see you all there.

Monday night swim
SwimThis week's Monday swim is cancelled, as the pool shuts early on a Bank Holiday. If anyone wants to replace it with an open-water swim, there'll be a few of us out at Druridge, starting at 6pm.

Tuesday TT - 27 April
BikePerfect night for quick times (amazingly, little to no breeze), but I think there may have been a few tired ligs from Sunday's racing.
