End of Summer training :-(

Last night\'s TT was the last of the year. There\'ll probably be two more open water swims (2 & 9 September) so anyone racing Newbiggin can get a couple of last swims in. I\'m checking opening times with the country park - at the moment, the park closes at 8pm, which allows time for a swim. If this changes, the sessions will be cancelled, so keep an eye on the web-site for the latest news.

Kielder Marathon - cyclists wanted

Steve Cram has contacted Gosforth RC about the Kielder Marathon weekend requesting bike riders who wish to be part of this weekend either as outriders or to compete on the Saturday. If you fancy being part of this weekend please let Peter Harrison know ASAP so that he can pass your details on to the organisers. Please also pass this onto any other clubs you may be affiliated to either as triathletes or running clubs

Sunday 17th October: Essentially, we require 4 – 6 riders to guide the runners around the route, they will be spread out amongst the field, with 2 riders at the head of the race with the leaders, 1 or 2 nearer the rear of the field, (they may want to take it in turns as will be at a much slower pace) and 1 or 2 within the field with walkie talkies, relaying the progress of the race etc. We will require up to 5 others on bikes to patrol a section each, these will be linking in with communications back at the base, reporting on the progress of the race and any injuries etc.
The marathon is due to start at 9.30am so ideally we would like them there by 8.30-8.45.
A small contribution will be paid and they will be provided with food.

Saturday 16th October: We will require 4 on Saturday if possible for the Run-Bike-Run event to do the same kind of thing, though the event will be a lot shorter. Timings are yet TBC. Possibly looking at starting the event at about midday so they would need to be there from 11-11.15am. In terms of paramedics, there will be plenty of mobile doctors around, so those riders with the walkie talkies will be in contact with them to report any injuries, so ideally it would be good for them to have some medical training but the doctors will be able to access the area where they are required.
There are about 20 teams already entered for the Run-Bike-Run event, but if you have any interest for the event, please get your club members to enter by visiting the event website.

Couple Challenge, Newbiggin

Helen Jones and Ian Simon were representing the club at Saturday\'s inaugral Couple Challenge.

The event, put on by the lads at Tri-Northumberland, was a (slightly short) half-Ironman distance race, featuring a 2-lap sea swim round Newbiggin Bay, a 2-lap cycle to Amble & back, followed by 4 laps round Newbiggin for the run.

There\'s an excellent race report <a href=\'http://trinorthumberland.sweat365.com/2010/07/26/couple-challenge-race-report/\' target=\'_blank\'>here, and with Helen taking 2nd place and Ian third, we both get mentioned.
